VCoP is an acronym for Virtual Communities of Practice. The root of the VCoP is CoP or Community of Practice. A CoP is a group "of people who share a concern, a set of problems, or a passion about a topic, and who deepen their knowledge and expertise in this area by interacting on an ongoing basis" (Wenger, McDermott & Snyder, 2002).
So often as educators we are isolated by the hectic pace of our work environment. Some times we can feel isolated by what we don't know in regard to educational technology. Other times we can feel isolated because of what we do know because there is no one with whom we can share our passion, triumphs and pitfalls.
How can a VCoP help k-12 educators learn about educational technology?
This Virtual Community of Practice is a place where k-12 teachers from around the world can share their concerns, successes, and expertise with other teachers who are passionate about using educational technology to positively impact teaching and learning. Using this wiki as our forum, it is my hope that we will work together to develop our knowledge and skills in a climate of mutual respect.
Discussion...a collaborative space.
Each wiki page will have a discussion page. The discussion page is opened by clicking on the discussion tab on the top of each wiki page. Posting your thoughts to the reflection questions at the end of each module will be a great way to begin discussions. Discussion may contain thoughts, concerns, and questions. They may be positive or negative as long as they are framed respectfully to encourage ongoing collaboration to share accomplishments or seek solutions to the challenges that face us.
